Question White male discrimination.. does such a thing exist?

I have currently found myself in a rather disturbing situation. For the past five years and three months I have maintained part time employment with Intel. This past Thursday the 20th, I was phoned by my recruiter and told that after the 30th of this month I would no longer be working for Intel. She explained to me that there would be some restructuring and that quite a few people would be gotten rid of. The restructuring process consisted of reducing employee's by half and leaving the remaining two with more hours. After obtaining this news I phoned my boss (who works directly for Intel). She then explained to me who she was getting rid of and what was to happen. She did not give me any reasoning as to why she chose who was to stay and who was to go, all I was told was that it was a "difficult decision". After stressing over the situation, I then wrote my boss an email which read:

XXXX,

After our conversation earlier, I havent been able to stop evaluating the situation. I understand your reasoning for your decision making but I do have a few questions. I am kind of uncertain as to why this new opportunity was not offered to Rich or myself? We have both been in this territory longer then anyone else (Rich four years, myself five years). I personally have always reached or exceeded my quarterly goals. I know that my territory (my stores) alone was one of the few that passed each of the mystery shops this past year. Where as the majority of your entire territory, even those in the KC area, failed. I have always delivered on what was asked of me. Whether it was late trainings to meet quotas or last minute demo days. I have an extensive knowledge of most all of the Intel architectures, be that new as well as old architectures. I also have an extensive knowledge of AMD architectures which have also played a critical role in my interaction with RSP's and Managers. I have an extensive sales background. I maintain a solid relationship with quite a few of my RSP's and Managers (most of which who are programmed in to my phone). Again I am just not real certain as to why two people who have maintained this territory are being replaced by someone who has less than three months of experience and who has a very limited IT background. It just seems a little discriminatory that we are being pushed out by a mother and daughter when the opportunity was not even presented to two people who have far more experience. Don't get me wrong now, I love Tish and her daughter seems to be a good person but when you step back and look at things, it doesn't really add up. I know this entire process has been difficult for you but please try to understand my position and how it looks.

Thanks,
Shawn

I have maintained this market beyond what I have been asked. I have trained each of the other three employees who have also helped maintain this market. I have always exceeded my quarterly goals and have never had any issues. So in short, my female boss replaced myself and another gentleman here who have both maintained this area and have far more experience then anyone else who has been in this area, with a mother and daughter. The mother being here for only two years and the daughter, less than three months.

What really brought this possibility to my attention was the fact my recruiter was very quiet about the entire process. She did not want to reveal much of any information. I have a friend who practices law and when I explained to her that I spoke to him, she became very hostile and kept asking me what I had told him. Do I have any options? Any and all information would be more then appreciated. Merry Christmas.

I can understand this is a frustrating situation for you. You can certainly try to speak to an attorney regarding whether or not you have any legal options. You can find an attorney through the locator service on LawInfo's home page at: http://www.lawinfo.com/. Some do offer free consultations. Good luck.
