Verizon claimes I damaged a underground cable
Verizon claims I damaged a underground cable while digging a post hole. I didn't call the "Dig Hotline" but I did see some marking flags on the ground that stated VERIZON BURRIED CABLE, HAND DIG. I thought I chose a safe spot to dig...The next day they claimed I damaged a cable. I went to check it out and saw a man in a BIG hole doing the repair. The cable was about the size of a garden hose and cut in two. No way did I do that or even hit their cable. I got a letter from them requesting my investigation report. How do I fight this, should I put all my cards on the table now or wait to see what proof they have? Are there natural accurances that can damage these, can I do damage without hitting the cable? I composed a letter of intent to fight this with full detail of the situation, do I send it, or should I have it reviewed first?
