Default What are tenant rights if there was only a verbal agreement?

2 months ago a moved into a property owned by my mother. It has been rocky the whole time. The first 2 weeks the power was shut off and I had to stay with my dad even though I paid rent. Then she let sewer back up in the house for 5 days before she agreed to have a plumber come out. She recently has informed me she is going to evict me as of January 31st. I have not violated any agreement and paid rent on time. We had a verbal agreement that I would be there through the end of October 2012 at minimum. It is all crazy personal issues. As crazy as it sounds she had put a fake profile up for me on a dating site and was trying to hook me up with rich creepy men and even gave my number out. She also began to cyberstalk male friends on my facebook account to see how much they made and where they lived so I had to unfriend her on facebook. I completely cut her out of my personal life and refused to discuss anything personal with her. That is completely why she is evicting me.

So my question is, does she have a right to evict me without cause and will a verbal agreement stand up in court? I don't want to move again. It cost me $500 is moving costs and had to purchases a new washer/dryer as well as pay set up fees for water/electric/gas/internet. It is insane to be kicking me out so quickly when I haven't done anything.

It is going to be hard to prove a lease without a written one. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
