Default Teacher responsibility for special medical needs child

I am a teacher who has a child with special medical needs in my class. I would like the parents to sign a waiver acknowledging that they will not hold me responsible if something unforseen happens to the child and acknowledging that I have no medical background and am caring for the child using only the info. they have provided. The school does not support having the parents sign such a document. I feel trhat I need a legal release since I could be personally sued if something does happen to the child while in my care. Providing the medical attention that the child needs is beyond my normal scope of responsibilities. Thoughts?

You raise some very thought provoking points. You are probably covered by your employer however it may be wise to have your specific factual situation analyzed by an attorney in your jurisdiction. And you should have this done IMMEDIATELY so that you don't lose important rights. Many lawyers offer a free or low-cost initial consultation just for the purpose of determining whether they can help you. Don't be afraid to contact them. Our Lead Counsel Panels at http://www.lawinfo.com/law/ are a great way to find a lawyer in your area on the internet.
