Default Suing a NY firm for deposit

Hello,

We hired a Public Relations firm a several months ago. They didn't deliver anything they promised. While we are still looking into suing them for the entire contract, we cannot even get our deposit back.

My question is, we are in Atlanta, GA, they PR firm is in New York, NY.
No one can tell us whether we have to file a small claim court in New York to get the deposit back or we could do it from GA somehow.

The same with the entire contract. To file a lawsuit for not meeting their end of the contract, can we do it in GA or we have to hire a NY attorney and file the suit in NY?

Thanks a lot.
Hope someone may be able to give us an advice here.
Gary
