Default striking unattended vehicle

i rubbed a car the other night and just kept going i got home the cops showed up later i recieved tickets for failure to control and striking an unattended vehicle. is striking an unattended vehicle the sam as a hit and run or was i given a break? also what is the punishment for striking an unattended vehicle?

I can understand that this is a frustrating situation. I would suggest that you place this under dui/traffic. You may also want to speak with an attorney regarding your legal options. Striking an unattended vehicle is pretty much the same as hit and run. By law, when this happens, you're supposed to try to make contact with the vehicle owner (calling the police is always a good idea too, just to report it even if you don't want to file a report) or by at least leaving a note with your name, phone number, insurance company name and phone number, etc. (The police realize that if you're at the mall, you'll NEVER be able to find the owner!). Leaving the information like this makes it "hit", instead of "hit and run". It serves to negate the "run" part, since you did make the attempt to take reasonable action given the circumstances.
