Default state involvement with grandmother

I have a horrible situation I need advice. I have been caregiver for 6 year for my grandmother, she is now 93 and been in over my head for a while. The current landlord has called the state and a social worker has come because we got behind on the rent. I have durable power of attorney. I have never asked for anything in all the time we have cared for her from any agency or state. We have been doing it all alone. Grandma gets really confused sometimes and thinks things that happened years ago happened yesterday.
We have been supporting her for years and now they are accusing me of not taking care of her which is far from true and taking her money. The only thing I would be guilty of is thinking with my heart and not my head. No social worker has called us and I found out someone is coming down to take her to the bank to sign papers. Grandma just told us at dinner tonight she does not want them involved and never asked for it. The landlord says she did but in talking to the father of the landlord he confirmed the only reason they called was because we were behind on rent. I have long combined our bill and paid them together.
What are my options?
Can I get a lawyer to protect her from the state and us?
Someone please help

I can understand this is a frustrating situation for you. Who exactly is coming to take your grandmother to the bank? ... and to sign what papers exactly? Also... can you post some additional information about who "they" are as far as grandma not wanting "them" invovled, etc.

If grandma is behind in the rent, the landlord can legally evict her. You can learn more about eviction here: http://resources.lawinfo.com/Search....:Massachusetts.

Hello and thanks for the reply
The they I spoke of is the Landlords and also the lady from the state. It was the state worker taking her to the bank but did not disclose why. I think it was because grandma forgot she signed the power of attorney. Since my last post what I have is this: .
I took grandma to the doctors yesterday because I was concerned she was so confused because the people are feeding her lies and she is in such a paranoid state she does not know what side is up. She is initially diagnosed with Dementia and has a CAT scan next week.
In meeting with the state lady yesterday it seemed I was guilty without any explaination. We tried to explain that grandma is not is a good state of mind but her response was she is a smart cookie. Such as an imaginary phone call grandma thinks i placed saying I am going to put her awayand then I just hung up. I guess she went to the landlords and told them this and they believed her also. I knew she thought this because she informed one of my kids about this months ago and I have had to convince her on an every-other week basis this fact was not true.
Grandma tells me still like always we are in this together and she wants me to continue doing what I am doing.
Lastly, the state was not called until I informed the landlords she could not afford to live there and we were seeking alternate housing. They want her to stay obviously and told us the state worker told them she could stay as long as she wants. This is a big mess and I cannot really afford a lawyer but if I have to I will. My family and grandma have been living paycheck to paycheck for a long time now.
Thanks for your time

I wish you luck in your journey. I do hope you speak to an attorney. There may be a legal aid office in your county and you may qualifiy for low-cost or no-cost assistance based on your income. Sounds like you may need to address your grandmother's mental state and what options are available to deal with her financial and legal affairs, including the housing, etc. Good luck.
