Default Where to start

My 16 year old daughter loaned her car to her 17 year old friend New Years night. The 17 year old friend does not have a license to drive. The 17 year old friend proceeded to drive several girls home from a party. At some point the 17 year old friend says she turned the wheel over to a 19 year old girl named Jessica. My daughter or any of the other girls even know the last name of this Jessica let alone how to find her again. Any way these girls got in and accident with another ladies can. The three girls in the car ran on foot from the scene leaving my daughters car there. The car was impounded and i do not know the extent of the damage to the ladies car. There was significant damage to the front end of my dughters car so I have to believe there is damage to the other ladies car. My daughter and my wife went to police station to report what they knew this morning after finding out the car was in impound and what the friend had to say. My question is who is liable for the damages. Daughter, friend, mysterious Jessica. Should we report this to our insurance company. The car is in my wifes name and it was left at the scene. The car only had LP & PD coverage. If we are responsible is there a legal case againg the friend or this Jessica if she could be found. Any advice on what to do with this situation would be appreciated. Thank you. I see know way to escape bad things here. As the parents are we liable for the daughters actions if the insurance doesn't cover and the Lady caomes afetr us for reinbursement or is the daughter. Again thank you

I understand that this is a frustrating and stressful situation for you. I would suggest that you speak with an attorney regarding this matter to determine your liability. You can locate one through the attorney locator on Lawinfo's home page at http://www.lawinfo.com/. Some do offer free consultations.

Basically you answered everything in the last sentence. Daughter is liable. Both friends are liable. If the lady wants to come after all three she can. Including the parents. Basically you are going to have to pay for your car to be fixed by yourself and the other lady even if she had PL and PD is getting her car fixed by her insurance so the answer here is do not tell the insurance company if they find out on their own you can at least say you tried. Alright. Brian
