Default ss disabilty overpayment

I have a long story, but will try to make it brief.
I was on SSDI, I returned to work, and when I believed I used up my trial period, I contacted SS, they continued to send checks, I called again. The woman told me I could cash it, but might have to pay it back.Thay continued to send checks, after a few calls. I fully expected to pay this money back. It took about a year or more for them to stop paynment, then several more months to send a bill for repayment. Well the amount they said I owed was higher from the amount I had on record. I didn't send money, but made calls and sent letters and records. This went on for a long time. The lady at my local office said it takes time, so I didn't worry. Well they reported me to the credit agency as a negelected account, then a few months later garnished my wages. All this was done without them notifying me. I again made a few calls, had a metting etc. I just want the right amount corrected, on their end it changes from time to time, usually more. They did stop garnishing my wages after about 6 months, aseveral calls and a letter. Now I've heard nothing for months. My credit is ruined, and was perfect before this. Is this all legal? I would have thought they had to notify me first. Thanks

I can certainly understand this is a frustrating situation for you. I suggest you contact an attorney to determine your legal options. You can find an attorney through the locator service on LawInfo’s home page at: http://www.lawinfo.com/.

You can also browse through the information in LawInfo’s Free Legal Resource Center here: http://www.lawinfo.com/index.cfm/fus...lient.consumer, or search for your particular topic here: http://resources.lawinfo.com/index.html.

Default there might be

There may be some legal issues involved in your case, better confer with an Attorney in your area to have your case evaluated and options defined.

Isn't it amazing that when you owe money to the feds, you better pay rite now, but when the situation is reversed, they take their sweet time!
