Default Sole Custody, Termination of Rights or a second chance?

My sons' dad is a habitual domestic violence offender. He told me he went to a mental institution to get help and that he wants to share custody. I was all for this and supportive and excited until i found out that he was arrested in August for domestic violence again and assaulting a police officer. He received 2 more felonies. Is this just cause to seek sole custody or have him sign over his rights because I don't want my son in that enviroment and if something happens to me I want my mother to get custody because she is a father to my child, we live with her, she takes him to doctor appointments etc., I would love for his dad to get him but with his record he won't be able to get a job and support my son and he is violent. Should I start off with supervised visitation then if he improves, grant him more time? Or should I seek sole custody and relinquishing his parental rights?

Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
