I can certainly understand this is a frustrating situation for you. What kind of lies are you talking about exactly? Are they only lies that are made in the context of a conversation with you. It is usually illegal in most states to record someone else's conversations without their knowledge/consent. If the person is having a conversation with you, some states will allow you to record it since you are a party to it, and some states require you to also get the other person's consent.
However, regardless of whether tape recording your co-worker is legal or not, it may violate company policy. If you're trying to show your employer you are an honest, trustworthy and valuable employee, this may not be the best way to do it.
Any additional information you could post about your situation may help you get better responses.
