Default Silent harassment in work place

My question is is it legal for an employee to tape record a conversation at work. I would like to get the lies on tape other wise it is just his word against mine. It does no good to go to HR she just believes everthing he tells her. My boss is turning words around and making me look like an idiot. In short he is trying to fire me. By the way I have been with this company for almost 15 years and have had several bosses but none like the new one. Prior to him coming on board I have never so much as been verbally warned for anything.

I can certainly understand this is a frustrating situation for you. What kind of lies are you talking about exactly? Are they only lies that are made in the context of a conversation with you. It is usually illegal in most states to record someone else's conversations without their knowledge/consent. If the person is having a conversation with you, some states will allow you to record it since you are a party to it, and some states require you to also get the other person's consent.

However, regardless of whether tape recording your co-worker is legal or not, it may violate company policy. If you're trying to show your employer you are an honest, trustworthy and valuable employee, this may not be the best way to do it.

Any additional information you could post about your situation may help you get better responses.
