my fiance and I have lived in our appartmentfor about 5 months. In this time, we have had sewage flood our appartment and soak our carpets four times. Ever time this has occured, all our landlord has done was dry the carpet. They have not one time even had the carpets cleaned, let alone dissinfect the carpet or offer to replace the carpet. All this time, we have had sewage stained carpet in our appartment and allthey have told us was the problem is fixed and their is no health issue. We have done numerous research online and around our town and everyone we talked to said it is a big health issue and to remove the carpet as soon as possible. My main question is this. If the landlord still refusses to fix the issue, can we leggaly withold rent? If so, for how long and how much time do we have to give them from the time we put our request for the carpet to be fixed properly, and the tie we withold rent. Any help would be appreciated!
