Default Scams

In Aug 2010 a friend and business owner had approached me with an offer for an investment. Knowing that my "significent other" had some money saved up he asked if i would speak to her and if she was able to come up with $5,000 he would pay her $1,000 a month as long as she wanted to invest and at the same time guaranteeing her original $5,000 ftating she could back out at any time. well that was all we knew at the time and as the months passed we found out it was his daughters boyfriend who was supposed to be doing the investing and they were trying to draw out the money. well after 2 or 3 months the boyfriend disappeared. well come to find out he ended up closing the account and taking the money. In late Jan 2011 we met this friend of mine who still insisted her money was safe and at the same time telling her the $1,000 a onth was now off the table but they talked and he agreed to pay 7.5% interest to her and that in a few days he would give her $1,000 and make payments for the rest. well he kept his word on the first $1,000 but we have not been able to get the rest of the money. i would like to know if this would be something i should take to the distric attorney or if i need to go to small claims. can someone offer me some options thank you E.I Shelley

Small claims is your best bet. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
