Question Running out of time

I'm facing a situation in which i have a divorce decree , stating that i am entitled to claim one child on my taxes each year. But there is a tax form my x has to sign yearly. Up until this year it has not been a problem. But now she's refusing due to the fact that im behind on childsupport payments. Im in the construction business and times are hard right now . I'm not trying to get the tax refund for myself , I want it to be applied toward my childsupport . A lawyer is not an option at this point, due to lack of income. I've already filed for one extension on my taxes and it runs out this month. I've had people tell me to file a contempt order against her. But no one knows how . Is this possible ? If so what steps do i need to take ? I'm running out of time here! Any advice would be greatly appreciated ....

You can absolutely file for contempt against her for not signing the tax document. And then expect her to turn around and file the same against you for not paying child support as ordered. The judge won't be happy with either of you, but you have a lot more to lose in the situation than she does.

I agree. You need to file a petition for contempt. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
