Default recovering money on account from a now defunct flight school

I have been receiving flight training from a small flight school in Oxford. My employer has a generous program of educational assistance and has issued checks to this school which have been placed in account to cover the costs of my training. Enough money has been placed in this account to cover my private instrument and commercial ratings. I have paid taxes on this money as taxable income. In July the owner of the school died in a crash. This crash was the second insurance claim by the school this year so they were dropped by their insurance company. The school shut their doors and reopened under a new name and new management. There were quite a few students at this school in the same situation as me with accounts and when the school closed we were told the accounts were frozen until everything went through probate. Today I spoke with the operator of the new school. He told me "It doesn't look good there's no money." He basically stated that all the accounts were gone and we had no recourse. There was several thousand dollars in my account alone. As far as I'm concerned that money was mine just as if I had given it to the school myself to be placed in an account. Is there any way for me to get this money back?

Default Response

It may be wise to have your specific factual situation analyzed by an attorney in your jurisdiction. And you should have this done IMMEDIATELY so that you don't lose important rights. Many lawyers offer a free or low-cost initial consultation just for the purpose of determining whether they can help you. Don't be afraid to contact them. Our Lead Counsel Panels at http://www.lawinfo.com/law/ are a great way to find a lawyer in your area on the internet. Best of luck!
