I have a question on the legality of hiring practices. I work at a company that has hired me as a temporary employee. I am part of a group of 10 to 15 other employees. So far 4 people have been asked to be hired on permanently...but let me tell you how. When someone gets an offer at another company they put in a letter of resignation. On occassion the company gives counter offers to keep certain individuals. These jobs that are the counter offers are never advertised...they just show up out of thin air. The people that do not put in letters of resignation never get a chance at them. On one occasion one person put in his letter of resignation and asked if any jobs were available. He was told none were. One week later (while the person that asked was still working) another person put in their letter and immediately got the counter offer. All four people that were hired just so happen to be Caucasian women. When ever they get a counter offer they are asked to stay...might just be a coincidence...8 people have put in their letters thus far. Is it legal for the company to come up with jobs without advertising them to at least the people already working? Some people who are over qualified do not even get an interview opportunity. Something just seems fishy.
