Default Proper Expectations

I have been looking for a forum to ask the following question:

Is it customary for an expert once a trial date has been
established to still charge for the date that has been
set, even though the trial is cancelled or settled ?

I understand if I was there waiting it normally would, but
I have some cases in which they want to set dates I will
be available, but if I do, I will not be able to use the dates
for anything else if they cancel/settle.

Expert testimony is a very small percentage of my business
and if the dates are cancelled/settled it would be very difficult
to utilize these dates for other clients unless it were at least
with 4 weeks notice ... which would not happen for a trial
cancellation/settling.

I would assume that things are different in every state. We have a expert witness directory on Lawinfo's home page at http://www.lawinfo.com/. You may want to contact someone on there and see if they can answer your question for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
