POST acadamy
My husband is 56 years old. He has 35 years experience in the field of Police work and Corrections. He took the Navy 10 week course in Patrol and Jail. When he retired from the Navy he took the Corrections Acadamy and worked for the Idaho State Correctional Institution for 18 years. Last year he was hired by the county Sheriff's office to be a jailor. When he went to the Correctional Acadamy in 1988 there was no POST acadamy for jailors in the state of Idaho. Jailors went to the Department of Corrections acadamy. He attended the very same and in fact had several jailors in his class. Now he is told he will have to attend the POST acadamy. He cannot pass the physical or the PT to enter the acadamy. There are Patrol Deputies who took the acadamy several years ago who are considerabley younger than my husband who admit that they could not do it now. If he does not pass the PT and the physical he will lose his job. These other officers who can't pass the PT are not required to do it again. I feel this is age discrimination and I would like to know if there is any recourse.
