Where are the people making the threats located? Generally for a threat to be acted upon, there must be TWO elements: 1) a specific enough threat to make a normal person feel threatened, and 2) reasonable ability to carry out that threat.
For example, if you're in state A, and the threatning party is in state B, it makes it impossible to convince either police for charges or a judge for a restraining order that the threats have credibility. If the parties in question are local, and you want to attempt to get a restraining order, you can certainly petition your local courts.

Apparantly police didn't feel they had probable cause based on what you told them. It really doesn't gain them anything to talk to the suspect (because no suspect is going to TELL police that they have every intention of harming you). You could/should have pursued a restraining order when you were still there, and attempted to address the matter with your employer (since they were co-workers). Instead, you chose to remove yourself from the situation (which may have been a good decision) rather than pursue those other possible avenues. Since there was no determination of a crime having been committed, and, there was no restraining order put in place which could have made addtional acts be treated as crimes, there's really nothing for you to do at this point - of several options available to address the situation, you solved the problem of being in a perceived situation of danger by geographically removing yourself.

Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.

Death threats are considered to be criminal offenses in many jurisdictions. Most death threats happen for terrorizing or pressurizing the victims for manipulating their behavior. In such cases the threat comes as coercion. If a person threatens to harm a head of a state in the United States and other countries, then it is taken as a serious crime. Therefore death threat cases of many states in America are encompassed by the respective coercion statutes.
If you received a death threat, contact the police. It's a crime and the person who did it can be arrested for making terroristic threats. You may also be able to get a restraining order against him or her.

Death Threats
It is really frightening on the part of anyone to receive death threats. Whether it is a joke or for real, we must fight this kind of attack to us. Knowing that it can affect us emotionally, it is obviously illegal and needs to be taken seriously by the victim. Surely police will mind this kind of case. Just ask help for the police immediately.
