Default Please Help! Child custody and a new significant other

I would like to know if there is anybody out there who can give me some insight on my situation. I am dating a man who at the end of May (only a week before we started dating) broke up with his girlfriend. They had a house together (which he paid for the majority of) and she and their one year old son moved out. My boyfriend has a high-paying steady job. His ex is in a very bad financial situation and I believe she has already met and moved in with another man. She is refusing my boyfriend's requests to see his son. They are now going through a custody battle; my boyfriend trying for at least 50/50. His lawyers have advised him that he absolutely cannot have a girlfriend during this time. What I don't understand is how that single factor could weigh so much on the case (especially since its been almost three months since they split and she nor her lawyers know about us yet). I also think that it especially shouldn't matter since she herself has a new boyfriend (and they're pretty serious by the sound of it). Will somebody please let me know how much the fact that my boyfriend has a girlfriend could hurt his case? Thanks to everybody who took time to read this and post a response!

Red face Talk to another lawyer

Hello, I read your post and I think that your boyfriend needs to speak to another lawyer. Just to get another opion on this matter.
I am not an attorney, but I don't see why having a girlfriend could hurt his case. If he is a loving father and helps support his child, that alone should be enough. If she has a new guy in her life, why can't he do the same ?
I wish you all the luck. Tell him not to give up, children are the most important thing in life.
If he is worried about this, he can always say that you are a good female friend of his. Courts can not stop you from having friends.
Good luck.
Dianne
