Exclamation Pet Deposits:

I understand that it's the law the pay upfront your pet's security deposit.

Now. I just received a dog as Christmas present not two weeks ago... Not only do I have to come up with the money to take him to the vet because he's sick, but there was a slight "altercation" on Sunday with a neighbor's dogs. And now first thing this morning I got a note stating I need to come up with $300.00 in 48 hrs. Not only is that steep and more than when what we were told it was going to be, but that is not ample enough time to come up with that deposit. No one can come up with Vet bills and that kind of deposit in less than a week.

Is there anything I can do?

Please,
Desperate from Georgia

No there is not. What you should have done was pay deposit before you got dog not after! This could be grounds for eviction. If evicted your chances of renting new place go way way down. You need to pay this or get rid of dog

Since I received the dog as a Christmas present, that poses a problem. Since there's nothing I can do, thanks for the advice, I'll take care of it.

I do agree. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
