Overpayment already paid
Back in 1999 I called on the toll-free SSA number and reported that my husband had just got a new job. The SSA worker said that he would log that information into my file and that I would not have to worry about it. Then in the spring of 2001 I received a letter stating I was frauding the government. The SSA claims that I never reported my husband working and now SSA tells me that they overpaid my SSI and I have to repay it. Starting in April 2001 they took half of my SSI every month until April 2002. Then in April 2002 they sent me a letter stating it was paid in full and that as starting the following month I would start receiving my full benefits again. When the following month came SSA sent me a new letter stating I never repaid that overpayment. So now SSA has been taking my SSI money again. Does anyone have any legal advice for me? It would be appreciated.
