I was hospitalized as a child back in 1971 and someone applied for SSI on my behalf. I recently got a letter from social security saying they may owe me money because an application that was submitted back in 1975 was never completed on their part. How is this going to get me any money they may owe me? I was under age and my father who I did draw under much later on is dead now. I do have the medical records for that time period which definitely shows I was disabled as I was in a hospital for almost 4 years. The woman that took my application recently told me that SS would pay me anything they owe me including looking back at any times i worked as an adult and fell under the amount i would qualify for. I just don't know if I should trust them to make sure I get any money I am eligible for including back to 1971.

Any advice on this?
