I moved out of my condo in 2006 and was informed that the management company felt there were excessive damages(even though they ripped the entire place up and formed two units out of one). I paid a third of what was owed and gave them the contact for the other tenants. Now,two years later, and several states away, they are asking that I pay an additional $540 and sending me to collections. How long can they collect on a property from a previous tenant and do the have to ask everyone that was on the lease? It seems like the contact me and not the other two previous tenants. The other two also had no credit at the time and had their parents sign a waiver that if they couldn't make a payment, the parent would do it for them. Are their parents also responsible for these two year old damages? Are they supposed to contact all roommates of the collection or can they only notify one?
