Cool Next of Kin Liability

Hello- I am looking to find out what the limits of liability are for the only next of kin (only adult child) of a parent would be in NY. The only child is in a situation where the parent has been diagnosed with dementia and needs to move from a private home living alone into assisted living, closer to her child's home and is not willing to do so. Can the child be held responsible for any damage or problems the parent causes and to what extent? Thank you for any help and advice you can give. dvlp NY
