Neighbor put up awful fence
My neighbor put up a chicken fence on about 15' of our property line next to my house, and he put a bunch on No Trespassing signs on it just to be spiteful. I was wondering if anyone knows whether there are regulations on the type of fence that can be put up on a property line and whether or not you would need a permit for the fence?

If there are code violations regarding the fence, you could certainly report them. Be careful, however, if there are any condition on your property that are not up to code, the neighbor could call and report you! Is there any way you could discuss with your neighbor the reasons why this fence is offensive to you? Perhaps you can come to an agreement about it? Sometimes this is not possible, but I throw it out there just in case.

No, I wish there was a way to talk this out. For what ever reason my neighbor despises me. There is a long story behind all of this. I guess I'll try to give a short version. My neighbor and my land were bought by the same contractor. He built the two lots according to the lots deeds. Well about 7-8 years pass and my wife and I decide we want to sell off 2 acres, therefore needing a survey. Come to find out the survey shows the deed being wrong. The surveyor notified my neighbors and my neighbors imediatly called a lawyer and sued for property encroachment. My house didn't meet the required set backs for the town and part of my driveway is on his land,(which is were the fence is now). We tried talking to our neighbors they wouldn't have it. We since got a varience from the town for the setbacks. We offered $10k for about 2k sq. feet of land which is more than it's worth in my town. The neighbors agreed, and then decided it wasn't enough they wanted $23k. There Lawyer basicly told them they were foolish for not taking the 10k so they fired her. They have now put this ugly fence up with the signs just to be spiteful, now I don't want what is not mine and I don't even mind a fence but, this fence is rediculous. I'm not sure where my neighbors anger is comming from. I can't even see their house from mine and it's basicly all trees between our houses. Oh yeah my well was on his lot too, we had another put in so it's on our lot. So, it's not like I'm being unreasonable with him. Maybe this gives a little insight on what's going on.

Oh my, sounds like a very frustrating situation. Did you have a lawyer helping you? Its tough dealing with a bitter neighbor. I'm sorry I could not be of more assistance. Depending on how things go, the assistance of an attorney may prove to be helpful. You can find one through the attorney locator service on LawInfo's home page at: http://www.lawinfo.com/. You might consider some type of alternative dispute resolution, such as private mediation, to help you work it out with the neighbor. Good luck!
