Default medicaid and child support

My husband's ex wife just told us she turned in the insurance cards and just uses medicaid. We paid half (sometimes all) of the copays etc. I'm concerned we're going to get dunned for her bills. She collected aid in another state lying that she received no child support. I had to dig out 3 years of canceled checks to clear my husband's name. Cam she do this legally in Texas? How do we protect our name? We not only pay the court ordered amount we also cover any extras we can. Thanks for your help.

Default Not sure but

My husbands ex uses both his insurance and medicaid for the kids and according to the medicaid office it is legal. I called to find out because I didn't want medicaid sending bills to us. Your local medicaid office should be able to answer your questions. Good luck

Default why I'm worried

After the State of NM welfare dept. came after my husband for $9000+ one becomes a little worried. I had to dig out 3 yrs. of canceled checks because she had lied about receiving child support. The ex-wife is on other assistance and doesn't work. The children are 11-16 so child care is not needed. I am just terrified the State of Texas will be on the phone in a few years demanding payment for the welfare she is getting for the kids! We need to protect ourselves. We follow the court orders to the letter. Is there any way to protect ourselves from Texas dunning us like NM did?

Default Legal?

I disagree with the previous writer's opinion; but I'm not an expert on welfare. I believe that the ex-wife has to make certain representations to the State in order to get free medical. I think (but I do not know) that one of these is that she has no medical insurance. No I wouldn't call the medicaid office. You're going to talk to a clerk who has no legal expertise. I would call the Attorney General Child Support Division. What I do know about is A.G. cases. I've handled a ton of them. It is not uncommon for the A.G. to come after the Father for the State's expenditures on his child. Rita M. Boyd Attorney
