Medi-Cal Eligibility
It is my understanding that Medi-Cal is for low income/low net worth people. My grandfather who lives in Southern California, is close to needing a nursing home, has net worth including his house of about $1.5 million[ house worth about 800k, rest in cash]. Only income is social security. We have has some attorneys tell us that they can get him eligible for Medi-Cal and it is completely legal. Is this true? I question this because it does not seem that the purpose of Medi-Cal is to help people with net worth over $1million.
If it is true, how much should an attorney charge to get him eligible, and more importantly, are homes that accept Medi-Cal patients very nice? I want to make sure if he has to go to a nursing home that it is nice, and I think we have plenty of money to pay for one ourselves.
Thanks
