I really do just think it's horrible to see such closed minded people. Not only that, do you not thinking that posting "drop outs are all losers" is going to affect your job in anyway? I'm sure you lost quite a lot of business once some "losers" see that. You're a big attorney, you figure that out, this is the internet. Most jobs involving the law really have to watch the things they post, but once of the biggest lessons is that education DOES NOT mean you have common sense.
I have seen a lot of successful people that have gotten their GED, have gone to college, gotten doctrins & such, & have been successful in their life since. I agree, that it is sad when someone is just too lazy and wants to drop out, living off their parents and such. BUT, there are different stories to everything, especially for young mothers. A lot of these young mothers don't live in big, nice houses with the comfort of not having to worry about what your child is going to eat, but some do. Again, a difference between education and common sense and wisdom. Money is not easy to come by, and i cannot say that just because you are a lawyer/attorney that you have no idea of this, but i can say it's obvious that you have forgotten this.
I, for instance, am 17 years old attending Biloxi Highschool.I have had a lot of personal issues I would rather not speak of on the internet, but long story short I have quite a few reasons to consider dropping out. I have a job, making $12.16 an hour, WITHOUT a highschool education. Just because you have no education, doesn't mean you can't make good money for being young. My plan is to save money with this job, and go to college to get my basics and continue into Art. I do admit that some kids have gotten quite a bit too spoiled because of they moms and dads, but that is one thing i have not been. I pay for my phone bill, I have to buy my own car. I live with a single mother struggling, and guess what, SHE GRADUATED HIGHSCHOOL. Dropping out can have its pro or cons, but as with life, that is decided by you.

I know this thread died a year ago and I've seen 4 pages of personal opinions, and I'd like to state my own to the subject of dropping out. Ahem..do you really think a kid WANTS to drop out? That's the thing most people don't see, because automatically they set their judgement on the fact that someone is just lazy..to be honest, I've been viewed as lazy too and it's fine because I don't really talk. Ever. I just sit quiet while adults or someone my age may voice their opinions and scream/cuss/spit/fight all they want but it's still an opinion. No kid wants to drop out, there is always a story behind it or they are emotionally dead/immoral and they have fun doing bad shit. I'm dropping out next summer, I turn 18 right before the start of school and I haven't had a good grade since 5th grade, and I don't know why. I'm not ADD/ADHD and I've been sent to the best councilors money can buy, been bribed with games and toys and money to just try to do my work. I laugh because I thought I was mentally retarded but the truth is school isn't for me, I'm typing this from a computer on neighbor's wi-fi because even though my single mom spent all the money trying to "fix" me she works over-night at wal-mart. She claimed a diploma, graduated college with a 2-year degree but she just couldn't find a good job and even if she could, now no one wants to hire a 50yr old woman. Anyways..the thing is that everyone in this world focuses on the bad things. The front page of a newspaper will be covered with how a man stabbed his wife 44 times with a knife in his sleep but the 17 yr old girl who is developing nano-tech robots to try and eliminate cancer is un-heard of. Sometimes it'd be better not being born at all, I'd be happy I didn't have to be brought into a shit-rock like the world is, but how can you be happy if you don't exist? If I ever become a dad I'll make sure my kids won't be anything like the Rita woman's, probably spoiled brats because she thinks they're perfect from getting good grades, just my opinion watch out because the purest soil hides the darkest seed.

Dropping out does not destine one to failure.

My husband dropped out of school at 16 got his GED put himself through vocational school working 3 part-time jobs while his class had not yet graduated. He currently has a successful career with a successful company working as and electrician for the companies Research and development engineering department. He programs and assists in designing, wiring and installing of their automated processing equipment.
My daughter dropped out of school at 17 and is currently in your 4th year of college and expected to graduate with her bachelors in psychology in the fall and planning to continue on to get her masters. She is currently employed as well in the field that she will be working.
Another member of the family dropped out of school and has successfully owned his own business'
Dave Thomas owner of Wendy's was a high school drop out
George Bernard Shaw "Irish playwright" was a high school drop out.
Peter Jennings was a high school drop out.
I find calling drop outs losers to be sweeping unfair statement. That truly does not reflect all drop out cases and paints an inaccurate picture of hopelessness and failure for those who have done so.
A person who drops out of school has an equal opportunity for success if one desires to be successful.

i'm not the smartest person in the world, but i too was a high school dropout. I had a purpose in mind... I didn't want too no longer depend on my parents, and that i could make it so i droped out. I went to job corps in morganfield, ky and got an trade but still no ged. At the age of 25 i got my ged but before then i became a business man buying and selling real estate with no high school diploma or ged. So i guess i'm a loser, i was raised on a butterball turkey farm owned by my dad who also was an high dropout but owned homes and land and 12 turkey houses and when he died 7 years ago he died an millionaire, we still have that farm today. My dad died without his ged, but he was a very educated man. Now today i have 3 hotels by hampton, and i have 2 apartment complexes with a total of 512 units, average rent is 745.00 per month. I'm a pastor of a local church and teach my members how to manage thier money , we have a 1200 seat church in which i paid for out of pocket.i guess i'm a loser right. I don't encourage high school dropout but a person should never let it keep them from learning and becoming productive in sosciety.

... By the dates of these postings, we are now looking at years into this subject. There are certain comments (reply's) made by ones that claim to be attorneys ... Reply's that are seemingly dangerous to the reputation of the profession of law ~ I will say, that we are taught in law school to never take on a personal/emotional air about subjects, let alone simple questions ~ For if we do, then we then stand to risk our clients or potential clients when dealing within the boundaries of law ~ The emotional and self righteous replies given to the one asking the subject question, were to say the least, unprofessional, which concerns me a great deal, but sadly also reflects the current state of our justice system. An actual, true professional and honorable attorney attorney would never offer an answer in the manner as they have on this thread. ~ Please be ware of ones claiming to be attorneys, when in fact they may not be. And if they are practicing law, then beware of the quality of representation.
