Leases and foreclosure
I rented a house a year ago and my lease is up this weekend. My landlord has stopped paying on my house 6 monthes ago and the foreclosure process has started. He is trying to get me to try to buy the property for less than he owes on it. I have already made an offer to the mortgage company that has the title but they won't entertain my offer unless I offer more. Tha landlord had about 15 other properties that he is also foreclosing on. He is telling me he has legal rights to collect rent or evict tenents even though the properties are moving into foreclosure. I need to know if I am legally responsible to pay him rent now that the lease I signed is expired? I am in the process of negotiating with the mortgage firm that holds the title. I could really use the rent money for closing costs and I don't want to get duped. I would also like to know if there is any advantage for my landlord if I buy the property?
