Default landlord responsiblity in uninhabitable situations

Help! I had to leave the house I'm renting with barely more than the clothes on my back due to a HUGE mold problem. Its everywhere - clothes shoes chairs window sills even bracelets inside a jewelery box despite repeated efforts at remediation w/bleach. There's a source somewhere but now nearly all of my things are ruined and I'm suffering from mold allergies. Can my landlord be held responsible? What about my damaged possessions? My roommate and I documented her gross negligence concerning the exterior of the home which we've concluded led to the damage of the interior. What type of legal counsel should I seek? How do I go about finding someone who specializes in this sort of thing? I appreciate any and all advice and would be happy to answer any questions that would help you provide me w/accurate pertinent information. Sarah

Default Response

It may be wise to have your specific factual situation analyzed by an attorney in your jurisdiction. And you should have this done IMMEDIATELY so that you don't lose important rights. Many lawyers offer a free or low-cost initial consultation just for the purpose of determining whether they can help you. Don't be afraid to contact them. Our Lead Counsel Panels at http://www.lawinfo.com/law/ are a great way to find a lawyer in your area on the internet. In your case select Personal Injury and/or Toxic Torts as the practice area. Best of luck!
