I gave my mother money in 80's to purchase a lot when she was on vacation in Georgia at the time. Over the years I have been the one paying the property taxes (since it is my land). I never got around to having the dead changed over to my name. When I called the tax office 5 years ago they told me since it was listed in my mother's name when she passes it will transfer to me. My mother just recently passed. I called the tax office to change my address for the property tax bill and to also inform them of my mother's passing. Now the tax office said I need an lawyer to transfer the dead. How I do I go about transferring the property to my name since my mother has passed away and we never got around to quit claiming the dead?
