Iowa Runaway, 17yr old girl, is it legal?
Well my 17 year old girlfriend wants to leave her parents home to live with me and my family. Now before you jump to conclusions. Her parents were never married and they fought for custody over her for years. Her family is torn apart she has gone back and forth between her parents since she was in elementary school. Emotional abuse on both sides. On her father's side he is a bible thumping religious zealot, and on her mothers she is an over protective crazy person...who ran background checks on her friends and their parents before allowing her to have any friends...
She has been molested by a former step parent...emotionally abused her entire life...her mother put her in a situation in which she was raped her freshman year of highschool...This girl has been through so much in a short 17 years im only asking for some advice on whether or not my family can take her in and not receive legal action against us.
Thank you for your advice and prayers

If she is reported as runaway and is found in your home. Your family could be in trouble. If you want to help then contact social services

Why because you didnt hear what you wanted? Facts are simple you cannot harbor a runaway teen without consequences. Social Services (not servers) is there in cases of abuse. You call and keep calling if there is abuse. The national reporting Hotline is 1-8004-A-CHILD

Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
