If there's no lien can we sell the house?
When my grandfather's health began failing 22 years ago he wanted to be sure my mother and I would have his property so he legally transferred his property to mom and I. The deed has her name and my name. This was November of (I think) 1989. Grandma became ill and entered a nursing home 8 months later in June. My grandfather died in 2000 and grandma died about five years ago. My mother is elderly now and I would like to sell the house but she is convinced that if we sell the house the state of Wisconsin will take the proceeds from the house to pay for grandma's nursing home stay. We had a title search done a few years ago and there was no lien. Is it OK to sell the house?
