Hi. My Dad is in the hospital and suffers from COPD. His doctors give him 6 months perhaps. Because of his COPD, he's developed baseline dementia and is unable to go through the process to complete a Will because it would be unlikely that a notary would be able to consider him 'of sound mind'.

I am his only daughter and he is not married, but there is no Will. I've heard such horror stories that his 'estate' will be going to the state. I do, however, have a power of attorney, but I don't know if that will help in anything. By the way, he lives in Hawaii and I live in Virginia. I've been travelling back to Hawaii every few weeks to see him and tend to his business.
