Default Hawaii Emancipation Process

My wife and I have been raising another family's child for four years. The father passed away with cancer in early 2007, the mother had been receiving Social Security checks during the entire four years and not helping to support this young man. My wife and I went through various agencies to get aid for him and Social Security froze the money going to the mother. Now she is fighting for him back after over a year of not speaking to us (or her son).

He is now 16 years old, what are the state laws and requirments for emancipation? any advice would be helpful.

Your state has no means to emancipate a teens outside of marriage or Military

I suggest you speak to an attorney about what legal options are available for your situation and whether emancipation is available (or appropriate) for you. In the meantime, you can learn more in LawInfo's Legal Resource Center here:

Good luck.
