Giving up parental rights
So, here's the thing. My boyfriend now just found out he could be the possible father of this girl's baby. She is only 4 months pregnant and could also have up to 2 more possible fathers for the child. He is not interested in having a child with her. I was wondering if after the baby is born and if she finds out if the baby is his or not and doesn't want him to have anything to do with the baby but wants child support can he give up parental rights? will he still have to pay child support?

Ok not to be rude but take out the "I" in this issue. You have no role in this at all. First off he or her needs to seek a paternity test to establish who is Father. Once that ahppens then support, custody and visitation can be discussed. He has no option to terminate his rights! Children cannot be discarded because you dont want them. If he did not want children with this woman then he shoud not have had sex with her. Again I am not trying to be rude but this is what he will be told I assure you.

I know that I have no role in this. The only time I said "I" was when I said "I was wondering". That is all I am doing. I had a question, so I was simply asking it. I never said anything about me being apart of it, not being rude or anything. I know that a paternity test needs to be taken, but she is not doing it until the child is born. I was just asking what happens if it ends up being his. I am just trying to find some answers, that is all. Just wanted to know if people have been in the same situation what he could possibly be looking at, I know that everyone's outcome will be different depending on the judge, but anything helps.

Its very simple. Once child is born a paternity test can be ordered. Once paternity is established both parties (Mom and Dad) can pursue custody, visitation and, support. There is no option for terminating rights at this point

Underdog is correct on this. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
