Georgia NDR block
05/23/2007 I applied for an Alabama Drivers License and received a temporary drivers license until I received my permanent license in the mail. Before, receiving my permanent drivers license in the mail I had to return to my parents home in Georgia to take care of my parents' who were ill; I am an only child.
There was a need to drive my parents' to places of necessity, doctor's, grocery store, etc. Since, I was out of state my permanent Alabama Drivers License was returned to the Alabama Dept. of Public Safety. My temporary license expired and I needed to be able to drive for my parents.
I contacted the ADPS and I was advised to apply for a Georgia Drivers License and when I returned to Alabama exchange the Georgia Drivers License for an Alabama Drivers License.
I applied for a Georgia Drivers License and was denied based on a permanent DUI conviction in Florida. The Georgia Division of Driver Services added me to the National Driver Registry.
I contacted the Georgia Division of Driver Services (GADDS) and I was advised in writing that Georgia created a drivers record on me when they added me to the NDR list showing me suspended in Georgia. This is highly, irregular and I don't understand how Georgia can create a drivers record and suspend my license in Georgia. I am not a Georgia resident nor have I ever had a drivers license in Georgia.
PROBLEM: Now that Georgia has added me to the NDR list I can't get a duplicate drivers license when I move back to Alabama, my resident state, as well as not being able to renew my drivers license. The ADPS advised me they can't remove the block from Georgia without approval from Georgia and the GADDS will not give approval. This is absurd, unjust, unnecessary and causing me undue hardship and stress. Why didn't Georgia just deny my application for a license and let that be the end of it.
I have a valid Alabama Drivers License and a clean MVR. At this point I don't know what to do, maybe seek legal counsel, request a hearing in Alabama, I really don't know. If anybody has faced a similiar problem with Georgia I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
Thank you,
Brian Mullican
