Default Fundraising Issue

I owned a dance studio. My dancers did many competitions, which were expensive. So, I arranged for them to do several fundraisers to help with costs of that, recital, costumes, etc. I have one family that worked every fundraiser. They did stop coming to classes without notice, and didn't pay for two months. They did dance in the recital. They quit my studiol. I have a text on my phone from the mother stating it. A few months after recital, I did decide to close the studio. I had no remaining money, and used the leftover fundraising money to pay for recital and other fees. She is demanding me to pay her the fundraising money "she" earned. I have no idea if I by law have to pay her this money. IU don't think I should have too, considering it was fundraising money, the check made out to the studio. I did give her some, because she did work hard, but now she is saying I should pay her all of the amount she earned, which is like $1200. I don't agree with this. Could someone give me some advice? She is threatening me to take me to court for it and sue me.

She can try to take you to court and you will need to prove that you used the money for what it was earned for. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
