Default Fraudulent Real Estate Transfer

I was helping an older friend out financially. He wanted to add my name to his deed to ensure I'd be paid back should he die. We went to his lawyer or at least the one of his choice. I was added to the deed. Five years later, his lawyer sent me a letter asking me to sign it back over. I refused and my friend said don't worry about it. Fourteen years after the original transfer.... my friend is suing me. He now says, it was my lawyer that did the transfer and that the lawyer (now dead) and I defrauded him. Because of all the time that passed, I never thought this could happen and I don't have all the documents I once had showing the debt (never paid yet). He says the lawyer and I misled him and he didn't realize it was a new deed that couldn't be changed. He is suing me fro fraud, he says he only learned about the fraud recently. He says he never knew that the deed couldn't be changed until recently. He says he the lawyer and I led him to believe that this was a temporary change until the debt was paid and he claims it was paid. It wasn't paid. What can I do. I called a lawyer who wanted 20G. I don't want to pay if I can't win. Do I have a chance. How can he sue me so many years later....

Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html. You can certainly try to speak to another lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
