Did you have a contract for employment? Most states are at will which means that you can be fired for any reason that is not against public policy.

No, no contract. The owner of the biz had an issue with me, for some reason. She did things like getting nit-picky about the office dress code with me while others were allowed to wear shorts and flip-flops. The last straw came when I slipped on and fell half-way down a carpeted staircase last Friday (I worked on the second-floor of a 2-story office space). I wasn't hurt...just a bit bruised with a swollen ankle. It was an accident. I was let go on Monday, told that I was not a "good fit" in the office.

I'm probably better off and my pride, for certain, is damaged but it just seems so unfair.

Life goes on and, if what they say is true, then another door should be opening soon!
