Employer chargng money for work history
Hello. I work for a Class 1 railroad and my question is regarding work history. My employer wants to charge me for a copy of work history (trains I have operated, origination and start date/time, destination and end date/time, and hours worked).
The company keeps meticulous records of said information and can access without fail with no problem in a short time (less than 1 minute).
I was asked to provide payment via money order with my written request to a mail stop within my company and was advised by multiple people within the department that this was the process.
2 Questions:
1) Is it legal or ethical for an employer to charge an employee for a copy of records regarding services performed, and if so/if not where could I find the information?
2) Am I ,as a direct employee, legally entitled to copies of any an all papers I have signed, along with a complete copy of my personnel file for my own records?
Thanks for any help!
