Exclamation Emancipation of a Child Mississippi

Long Story made short. My neice who is 18 and still attending high school wants to move to another city
in Mississippi to attend school. Her mother kicked her out a little over a year ago and she has been living with my mother who is 72, (her grandmother) . My neice has already moved and attempted to register in the new school district. She attempted to request her records from her prior school and was told her mother, who is unwilling to cooperate, would have to request them. I fear she will give up on school if we can not resolve this issue. The counsler told her that she would have to be Emancipated then she could retreive her records. Does anyone have additional information about this type of situation. Is their a particular form we can download or site that i can consult? Any information would be much appreciated.
Thank You.

Make sure the folks at the old school realize that she is 18 - a legal adult in Mississippi. She should NOT need her mother's involvement to obtain her school records. If the school continues to be a pain in the butt, have her contact the school board and obtain her records directly from them.
