Default email threat question

Hello I'm a Maryland resident living in Thailand for the last year. I received a few sessions of therapeutic massage from a man whom I believe is a Singaporean a few months ago. There has been a dispute on the issue of payment, and he is attempting to extort a large amount of money out of me. In his most recent email he threatened "serious repurcussions" if I don't pay what he's asking. The payment was never in writing and what he's asking is far above what would be normal prices even in US terms. I'm starting to fear for my physical safety and am wondering what he would have to say in an email for it to be considered assault or break a law. Since I'm in Thailand and everything took place in Thailand, should I go to the US embassy if the threatening escalated. Thanks for any insight.

Your residency is irrelevent. If you're in Thailand and everything took place in Thailand, then Thailand has jurisdiction and any suspected crime should be reported to local authorities.
