Dr charges for services not rendered
I visited a Functional Health doctor for an hour for the fee of $345 for an hour. I paid 1/2 before the visit and 1/2 the day of the visit. While there, the Dr.asked that I get some tests that cost around $2300. I didn't want to spend that kind of money, but she said that the office manager could see if I qualified for one year interest free credit with her office.
I agreed to see if qualified and I told her my soc. sec. number and a couple other answers to her questions. I qualified, but no one asked if I wanted to have the tests or not for sure. I thought I'd go home and think about it. I mentioned that I needed to pay the second half of my bill, the $172.50 and she said she was working that up right then. She handed me a cash register receipt that was approximently 2 inches by three inches in which I signed.
When I got ready to send the bill in to my insurance company, I noticed that the bill was not only for the second half of the office visit, but also for the $2300 in tests! I had decided not to get the tests after mulling it over in my mind in between the time of leaving the office visit and when I noticed the charge, so I was especially shocked to be billed for services that had not been rendered. Now, they are saying they can't refund the money and that I agreed when I signed the little register receipt.
I was stupid in trusting that they were charging the $172.50 when I signed the receipt, but I can't imagine having to pay for services not rendered. Is this legal?
