Default What to do now? Few assets, debts, etc. after death...

Hi,

I am hoping I can find some answers here!! Here's the story - my mother passed away from cancer this past October. She was only 53 years old

At any rate, she did not have much of anything to her name. She was not married, but was a single parent at the time she passed (my little brother is 15). She had something in the range of $15,000 in credit card debt.

Because she possessed very little, had next to nothing in a bank account that wasn't in her name - creating a will was not a high priority.

That being said - she had a paid off truck that is now in my older brother's possession.

Now, to my questions:
  1. What happens to her credit card debt? Are the creditors notified of her death? (I don't even know what company(s) she had accounts with)
  2. My brother has the truck title, but because she had debt, can he transfer the title in his name without a ton of hassle and legal time/money?

Thanks for any help you can offer!
Best,
Mike

I am sorry for your loss. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
