When I was healthy, I was a member of a credit union (name of credit union withheld). I had a car loan, personal loan, and credit card through this CU - all well within my means, with the job I had, at the time.

One morning, I awoke in terrible pain. When the pain did not go away after a month, I visited a doctor and was diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease with severe narrowing at the nerve paths in my c-spine, from the C1 all the way to the T1 (my entire neck). I worked as long as I could, but eventually had to stop working, due to the pain, the meds I was prescribed, and my job description, which my condition no longer allowed me to do.
