Copyright for design(s)
I have a question regarding copyrights for design, specifically a T-shirt design.
My first concept follows the same theme and makes up a series. (probably 5-10 individual designs within the series) They all would be original and different, but would follow the same idea, meaning they would look the same only one part (image) is changed to make up individual designs.
I'm wondering if multiple designs can get a copyright with one filing? Does each individual design need a copyright or could all 5-10 designs be protected by explaining the overall concept?
Furthermore, is only the actual design filed protected? Would only the font/colors that are used in the filed design be protected? I guess I'm just worried someone could easily change an image or color and do the same idea.
My second concept would only have 2 designs.
A T-shirt design has been created where it includes three parts, A specific word, Image 1, and Image 2. I'm sure it's protected since it's a T-shirt that has been sold. However, I think it's only copyrighted as a full design, (all three parts together) I'm wondering if the same idea/concept could be created where a different word is used, thus creating an original piece?
(I probably wouldn't use exact image 1 and image 2, but it would be the same item/likeliness. Just a completely different word.
Is this okay? or will there be problems?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Rick
