Copy of Will
If a lawyer prepares a will for a couple and has it signed and witnessed in his office; is he required to keep a copy of that will? My parents had a lawyer prepare their wills and were given a copy. Unfortunately my mother developed Alzheimer's disease a few years later and now she nor anyone else can find where she hid the wills. We contacted her attorney and even gave him the exact date the wills were signed; but he can not locate a copy in his records. He is now a Commonwealth's District Attorney and has stored the records from his old office. I just think he does not want to bother looking for the wills. I thought an attorney would be required to keep a copy of a will he drew up had signed and witnessed in his office.
