Currently I am supposed to be the father of the child who, in fact, the woman is 6 months pregnant. The mother as well as I think it would be in the childs best interest for me to sign away all my rights (no child support, no visitation, nothing). Can this only be done after the baby is born or can it be done sooner. Also how hard is the process to do this, is this very rigorous? Does it take going to a judge or can you just have an attorney and if both consenting parents agree then it will be done. Also if my name is put on the birth certificate as the default father can she get me for child support or anything else! This is in Missouri. Every state has different laws regarding terminating parental rights. Some states do not allow it unless the child will be adopted, for example by a step parent. The reasoning behind this is the a child should be supported by both parents. Check out your state's website for the law regarding termination of parental rights.
